See the grand rapids at Storforsen!
Daytrip to Storforsen, pearl of the Piteå River. The rapids at Storforsen is one of the most visited places in Sweden and the longest, biggest free flowing rapid in all of Europe. Included in this trip is a guided tour along the rapids of the river, a visit at the logging and log driving museum, lunch at hotel Storforsen and free time to explore the area.
Storforsen defies description. Seeing it frozen, wrapped in the shroud of winter is impressive, but in summer it is even more so. Wild, willfull, soft and sensual... Many have fallen in love next to the dance of the raging river.
Storforsen has held the imagination of man for thousands of years. Here, men have lived and worked since the last ice age and traces of bygone eras are many along the rapids. That wich today is a popular visiting ground has to the sami people always been regarded as a holy place used for sacrefices to ensure good hunting and fishing. In days gone by, the rapids were considered to be one of the gateways to Saivo, the underworld that was home of the dead.
On this trip you will experience the rapids at Storforsen for a day and hear stories about what they have meant to sami and swedes throughout the ages!
